  • Wozniacki eases into second round on home soil

    Copenhagen, Denmark (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Danish crowd favorite Caroline Wozniacki was an easy first-round winner Tuesday at the $220,000 e- Boks Sony Ericsson Open.

    The world No. 3 Wozniacki waltzed past helpless Croat Petra Martic 6-3, 6-2 in 71 minutes on the indoor hardcourt at Farum Arena.

    Up next for the 2009 U.S. Open runner-up will be Czech veteran Iveta Benesova.

    While Wozniacki advanced, third-seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic fell to Romanian Sorana Cirstea, who took a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory. Sixth- seeded Slovenian Polona Hercog moved on with a 6-3, 7-5 decision against big- serving German qualifier Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

    Meanwhile, the aforementioned Benesova blitzed Russian lucky-loser Elena Bovina 6-4, 6-0, Slovenian wild card Katarina Srebotnik snuck past American qualifier Alexa Glatch 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and Britain's Anne Keothavong overcame Swede Sofia Arvidsson 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

    Additional Day-2 wins came for German Tatjana Malek, Czech Sandra Zahlavova, Brit Elena Baltacha and German Kristina Barrois.

    This week's champion will pocket $37,000.
