  • Querrey downs Murray to take Los Angeles title

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Sam Querrey successfully defended his title as he defeated top-seeded Andy Murray in the final Sunday at the $700,000 Farmers Classic tennis event.

The second-seeded American Querrey took a 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 decision over the Scot in 2 1/2 hours on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Coming into the match, Querrey was 0-4 against Murray in his career, including a straight-sets defeat at Wimbeldon this year.

Querrey is the first player to claim back-to-back titles in LA since countryman Andre Agassi did so in 2001-02.

He now holds a 4-1 record in title matches this year and captured the sixth title of his career.

Murray dropped his second final of the year as he was defeated by Roger Federer in the final at the Australian Open.

Querrey collected $111,950 for his victory.
