  • Murray into semis in LA

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Andy Murray took a first-set tiebreaker against Alejandro Falla of Colombia and took control from there for a straight victory in the quarterfinals at the $700,000 Farmers Classic tennis event.

The top-seeded Scot, this year's Aussie Open runner-up, took a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 decision on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Murray's next opponent, fourth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, came back to upend American James Blake, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, in their quarterfinal. Blake, a finalist here in 2007, was vying for his first semi since June 2009.

Sam Querrey outlasted German Rainer Schuettler, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) in two hours,20 minutes, as the second-seeded American improved to 6-0 in quarterfinal matches this season.

Querrey, who beat Aussie Carsten Ball in last year's Los Angeles finale, will face sixth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic in the semis after the Serb downed third- seeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, 6-3, 7-5.

This week's champion will collect $111,950.
