  • Zvonareva, who is participating in her first tournament since finishing runner-up to Serena Williams at Wimbledon, got by Dominika Cibulkova 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 in almost 2 1/2 hours.

    Zvonareva was the highest seeded player to participate in the first round, as top seeds Jelena Jankovic and Samantha Stosur received a bye into the second round.

  • Roddick, who received a first-round bye, downed Slovenian Grega Zemlja in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

    Verdasco had a much tougher time with Germany's Michael Berrer, needing two hours, 41 minutes to post a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) result.

  • Safina cruised in the first set before prevailing in a tough second set, beating Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko by a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) score at La Costa Resort and Spa. This San Diego event was last held in 2007.

    The struggling Safina is a former No. 1 who has dropped down to No. 35 in the world.

  • Blake, who titled here in 2002 and was the runner-up in 2005, dropped his match to fellow American Ryan Sweeting, the 119th-ranked player in the world. Sweeting took a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

    Meanwhile, the Argentine Nalbandian easily dropped American Rajeev Ram, 6-4, 6-0, in just 52 minutes.

  • The Aussie Open semifinalist Li was tested in the first set before cruising to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory over Czech wild card Kristyna Pliskova, while the fifth-seeded Goerges grounded Swiss Stefanie Voegele 6-2, 6-4 on the indoor hardcourt at Farum Arena.

    The 21-year-old German Goerges captured her first-ever WTA Tour title in Bad Gastein, Austria two weeks ago and has now won six straight and nine of her last 10 matches.

  • Malisse posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over Colombian Santiago Giraldo in a match that was officially timed at 1 hour, 52 minutes but was delayed for more than two hours due to rain at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

    In the late contest, Zeballos took down Michal Przysiezny of Poland by a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 count.

  • The second-seeded American Querrey took a 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 decision over the Scot in 2 1/2 hours on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

    Coming into the match, Querrey was 0-4 against Murray in his career, including a straight-sets defeat at Wimbeldon this year.

  • Ferrero, who was defeated in the final last year by Nikolay Davydenko, won his third title of the season. He broke Starace's serve to take a 2-1 lead in the opening set and never trailed the rest of the way.

    The Spaniard broke Starace once more in the second set and did not face a break point on his own serve throughout the 80 minute match.

  • Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde held the mark prior to the 32-year-old California twins breaking it in their 100th career final.

    The duo tied the mark in May and improved to 6-0 in finals this season. They had won the title here five times previously.

WTA

  • Azarenka, of Belarus, broke the Russian three times in the first set, then three times in the second to take a 6-4, 6-1 victory on the hardcourts at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

    This is the fourth career crown for Azarenka, who took home $107,000 with the win. She lost in the finals at Dubai and Eastbourne earlier this year.

  • The epic match lasted over three hours, with the third-seeded Pavlyuchenkova securing her second career WTA title in as many final appearances. She won the Monterrey Open back in March with a three-set decision over Daniela Hantuchova.

    Pavlyuchenkova, 19, became the 10th woman to win two singles titles this year.

  • The second-seeded Almagro fired 17 aces en route to his seventh career title and second in the last three weeks after stunning crowd favorite Robin Soderling in the final at the Swedish Open. He improved to 28-11 on clay this year and is now 7-2 all-time in ATP finals, all of which have come on clay.

    Gasquet, the No. 7 seed, was appearing in his third final this year. He was a runner-up to Marcos Baghdatis in Sydney back in January and defeated Fernando Verdasco at Nice just before the start of the French Open to claim his sixth career championship.

  • Russia's Sharapova bounced back from a first set loss to rally for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over third-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska on the hardcourts at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

    Earlier on Saturday, Belarus' Azarenka celebrated her 21st birthday by upending top-seeded Australian Samantha Stosur in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the final.

  • The second-seeded American Querrey took a 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision over the Serb in under three hours on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

    In the night match, Murray won the first seven games of his match against his Spanish opponent, the fourth seed, but the No. 4 ranked player from Scotland came through with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 victory.

  • The second-seeded American Querrey took a 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision over the Serb in under three hours on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

    Querrey, who beat Aussie Carsten Ball in last year's Los Angeles finale, fought off a match point in the 10th game of the second set before forcing the second tiebreaker of the match. Tipsarevic raced out to a 5-1 lead, but a feisty Querrey won the next six points to send things into a decisive third set.

  • The Belarusian improved to 4-0 against the Australian in her career with a thorough 6-2, 6-3 victory on the hardcourts at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

    Azarenka will face the winner of the Agnieszka Radwanska-Maria Sharapova match.

  • Ferrero, a former world No. 1, was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Italian Andreas Seppi, while Starace battled back to upend eighth-seeded Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2.

    Ferrero advanced to the final for a second straight year, as he was defeated in 2009 by Nikolay Davydenko. The Spaniard also reached his fourth final of the season, having contested the other three in February -- he won the Brasil Open and Copa Telmex, while losing in Acapulco.

  • The third-seeded Pavlyuchenkova earned a 7-6 (7-1), 2-6, 7-5 victory over Australia's Jarmila Groth, while Vesnina rallied for a 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) triumph over sixth-seeded Andrea Petkovic of Germany.

    Pavlyuchenkova will play in her second final of the year and her career. She claimed the Monterrey Open title back in March with a three-set win over Daniela Hantuchova.

  • The second-seeded Almagro earned a 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3 victory over fellow Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver, while the seventh-seeded Gasquet advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Kazakhstan's Yuri Schukin.

    Almagro needed to save a set point in the first-set tiebreaker before winning it, but Gimeno-Traver saved a pair of break-point chances against his serve in the second set and converted one of his two to even the match. Almagro then opened a quick 3-0 lead in the third and closed out the match in two hours to advance to his second ATP final in the past three events.

  • Stosur outlasted seventh-seeded Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Stosur, who lost to Francesca Schiavone in the finale at Roland Garros, is playing her first tournament since breaking into the top five.

    Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the eighth seed, took down defending champion and fourth-seeded Marion Bartoli 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Bartoli of France surprised American star Venus Williams in last year's finale here. Azarenka will battle Stosur in Saturday's semifinals.

  • The top-seeded Scot, this year's Aussie Open runner-up, took a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 decision on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

    Murray's next opponent, fourth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, came back to upend American James Blake, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, in their quarterfinal. Blake, a finalist here in 2007, was vying for his first semi since June 2009.

    6 Davydenko was shown the door by eighth-seeded Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-2, 6-1, at ITC Stella Maris. Davydenko defeated former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in last year's Umag championship match.

  • Qualifier Yuri Schukin upended his world No. 14 fellow Russian Youzhny 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in 2 hours, 12 minutes on the clay courts at Roy Emerson Arena.

    Second-seeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain avoided an upset by handling France's Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) on Day 6.
