• New York's Angel win MLS Player of the Week

  New York, NY (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York striker Juan Pablo Angel was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 18, it was announced on Monday.

  Angel teamed up with New York's newest designated player - French striker Thierry Henry - to score two goals at the Houston Dynamo in a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.

  "I gave him two, we scored two," Henry said of assisting on both of Angel's goals.

  "I know he is a great goal scorer. I know he loves to play more up front, more in the box, and I don't mind dropping and playing as the second striker." With the two goals he scored on Saturday, Angel is now second in the league with 11 this season, just one behind current leader Edson Buddle of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

  The player of the week award is Angel's second this season and fifth in his MLS career.

  The MLS Player of the Week award is selected each week by the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print, television, radio media. More information can be found at soccerreporters.com.
