Angel scored in the 10th and 58th minutes, both times giving the Red Bulls the lead, but New York (8-6-3) failed to secure the win even with a man advantage for the entire second half at Robertson Stadium.

MLS

  • Neither side created a ton of chances over 90 minutes, but a deflected long ball from the back ended up in the path of Bunbury and he headed it past Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei for the game's lone goal.

  • Baudet deflected a cross from Dallas' Jair Benitez past teammate Matt Pickens, and Dallas (6-2-9) used the 22nd-minute mistake to remain unbeaten on the road since a 2-0 loss at Red Bull New York in mid-April.

  • Ljungberg, who joined Seattle last season from Arsenal of the English Premier League, becomes the first designated player ever traded in Major League Soccer.

The 33-year-old midfielder is the Fire's second DP aquisition this season, after Mexican international Nery Castillo was announced earlier this week.

MLS

  • "Getting to this day has been a long journey for the Chicago Fire," Chicago Klopas told mlssoccer.com earlier this week when the Mexican international was officially introduced. "I can remember over two-and-a-half years ago, when we in the UK, looking for potential [designated players]. Obviously we all knew Nery, and we were actually thinking that one day potentially this guy could be a great addition to the Fire organization." While Castillo is not expected to start this weekend, he could make an appearance.

"I come over here with a lot of objectives," he told the league's website. "I know [Cuauhtemoc Blanco] was here in the past and I'll be trying to [recreate his individual success] but I want to get a championship with the

  • Real Salt Lake (9-4-4), which trails the Los Angeles Galaxy by nine points in the Western Conference, cannot afford to let any more points slip away when it hosts D.C. United (3-11-3) on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

"We pick each other up, we don't need to panic at all," Rimando said. "We're still moving up so next week we'll look to get three points against D.C." Rimando made the mistake one week after Real's 10-game unbeaten run ended in a 2-0 loss to FC Dallas, and now the Utah squad is trying to avoid a three-match winless streak.

  • Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - It has been a disappointing season to so for the Kansas City Wizards, but the Major League Soccer club is hoping it can use a 2-1 win in an exhibition against English premier League side Manchester United this past Sunday as a stepping stone when it hosts Toronto FC on Saturday.

"It was definitely a big game for our organization," Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said. "Having the opportunity to play Manchester United, arguably the best club team in the world, was a huge accomplishment for the Kansas City area. It was tremendous to have 50,000 fans show their support at this game. I am extremely proud of the team for how they played during the game. To have the courage and competitive drive to stay ahead for 55 minutes while a man down was big." MLS

  • The Rapids (6-5-5), who are winless in six league fixtures, should have their hands full because not only is Dallas (6-2-8) unbeaten seven, but only has one road loss this season.

"Ithink it?s a physical thing," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman told mlssoccer.com of his team's recent surge. "The guys are prepared for the contest, for the war. I think it's a mental thing where every time we find ourselves coming back, it just builds confidence that we can come back. If we keep working hard, we know we'll get the goal and the result." A lot of it also has to do with the lay off 2010 MLS All-Star David Ferreira, whose four goals and two assists over the last 10 games only show part of what he has been contributing for his team.
