Ferrero claims clay court title in Croatia

Ferrero, who was defeated in the final last year by Nikolay Davydenko, won his third title of the season. He broke Starace's serve to take a 2-1 lead in the opening set and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Spaniard broke Starace once more in the second set and did not face a break point on his own serve throughout the 80 minute match.

Bryans set doubles record in LA

"Due to fatigue and a sprained ankle in Atlanta, I am not in good shape to play," Fish said. "I need to rest in order to compete at a high level." Becker beat Lapentti, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), in the final match of the night on the hardcourts at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Gicquel entered the draw when Kazakhstan's Evgeny Korolev exited it with a back injury.
