Olsen takes over D.C. as interim coach; Onalfo dismissed

(Sports Network) - D.C. United announced on Wednesday that the club has named Ben Olsen as interim head coach following the dismissal of Curt Onalfo.

D.C. United's technical director, Chad Ashton, will serve as interim assistant coach, while assistant coaches Kris Kelderman and Mark Simpson and will retain their roles with the club.

Rookie defender Ream the best value in New York

Even with New York tossing around millions of dollars recently to add Thierry Henry and Rafael Marquez - two players with higher annual salaries than Angel - Ream has quietly developed into one of the top rookies in Major League Soccer.

Ream, selected with New York's third pick in the MLS SuperDraft, is one of two Red Bulls to start every match this season - Angel is the other - and the only one to play every minute.

San Jose loses Opara, Beitashour to injuries

Opara, the No. 3 pick in the 2010 SuperDraft, has started 10 games this season for San Jose. He suffered the injury Saturday night in a 1-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders FC. The injury was discovered Monday, and he will miss at least a few weeks, possibly much longer.

Beitashour was injured in training and will also require surgery but he should be able to play with a cast on his hand, although he will not be available for San Jose's next match Saturday at the Colorado Rapids.

Earthquakes release midfielder Robles

Columbus releases rookie midfielder Yanez

The 22-year-old Yanez, who was selected by the Crew in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of Louisville, had yet to see action with the club.

Yanez was selected 61st overall, just three picks from the end of the draft.

Red Bulls ink Mexican captain Marquez as 3rd DP

I am committed to doing my very best to help the Red Bulls in their playoff push this year and compete for championships in the years to come." Marquez, 31, spent the last seven seasons of his club career at FC Barcelona, where he was part of four La Liga winning teams. Prior to joining Barcelona, Marquez played for AS Monaco from 1999-2003, winning the Ligue 1 Best Defender in 2000.

Internationally, Marquez has appeared for Mexico 94 times, captaining the team since the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Angel teamed up with New York's newest designated player - French striker Thierry Henry - to score two goals at the Houston Dynamo in a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.

Marco Pappa, Collins John and Mike Banner scored consecutive goals inside 20 minutes to give the Fire (5-5-5) an early 3-0 advantage before Galaxy attacker Landon Donovan scored two penalty-kick goals to add some excitement to the end of the game.

The Galaxy (12-3-4) narrowly missed going up 1-0 in the game in the first minute when forward Tristan Bowen found Edson Buddle in the Fire penalty area with a through-ball. Braun helps Chivas tame Crew

Justin Braun tallied his seventh goal of the season in the 37th minute before Blair Gavin scored shortly before halftime, doubling the lead. Rapids, Dallas both gunning for points in Western showdown

The Rapids (6-5-5), who are winless in six league fixtures, should have their hands full because not only is Dallas (6-2-8) unbeaten seven, but only has one road loss this season.
