Two assistants join Duquesne staff

The 68-year-old Painter has over 30 years of coaching experience at the college and professional levels, and spent the past two seasons as quality control coach at California University of Pennsylvania. He was on the staffs of the San Diego Chargers (1994) and Denver Broncos (1998) during Super Bowl seasons.

Craig has eight years of Northeast Conference playing and coaching experience. Most recently, he served as special teams and strength and conditioning coach for Saint Francis (Pa.).

Patriots add OL Ghiaciuc

Ghiaciuc, 29, did not play in the NFL in 2009, as he was waived by the Chiefs prior to the regular season and did not play for the Chargers after signing a contract with them in late December.

Cincinnati selected the Central Michigan product in the fourth round of the 2005 draft, and the 6-foot-4, 303-pound lineman started 42 of the 48 games he played in for the Bengals.

Seigler was a standout lineman at Oregon State from 2000-03. He then played in the NFL with Pittsburgh and San Francisco (2004-07) and two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts. He was a member of the Steelers' Super Bowl XL championship team. This is his first coaching position.

Except for a season-opening win against a woeful Edmonton club, little has gone right for the Lions thus far as they find themselves tied for last place in the Western Division with the aforementioned Eskimos at just 1-4. The last three weeks have seen the Lions play some tight games, but each time the squad came out on the losing end, as it did again against Edmonton last weekend by a score of 28-25.

In a game that was delayed about 40 minutes due to poor weather conditions that actually knocked out power at the stadium, BC scored 15 of its 25 points on the night in the final quarter, but it was the defense that let the Lions down late in the meeting.

Despite losing two in a row and four of the first five games of the season, Hamilton has actually jumped three spots in the most recent power rankings to fifth, but that has more to do with the inept play of other clubs in the league rather than with how the Ti-Cats performed last week.

The Colts seemed like a lock to bring home their second championship in four seasons, winning their first 14 games before going mostly with their reserves over the final two contests, both losses. In fact Indianapolis only lost three games in all under first-year head coach Jim Caldwell, but one of those was a 31-17 setback to the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl, a contest in which the Colts couldn't hold early leads.

Lions president Tom Lewand said Wednesday morning that Suh was set to sign the deal before taking the field for the afternoon practice.

"We've officially agreed to terms," said Lewand. "We've worked hard the last several weeks, in particular, the last several days. As with all of these deals, it's matter of compromising and finding common ground. While we would have liked to do it earlier [and] I'm sure he would have liked to do it earlier, we're just glad it's done and over with." Vikings hope to sway Favre with more money

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, which on Tuesday first broke the news of Favre's apparent decision to call it quits, the Vikings are set to offer the future Hall of Fame quarterback an additional $7 million to play one more season.

Favre has one year left on his contract at a reported $13 million, but the Vikings are apparently willing to make it $16 million in salary with another $4 million available through incentives.

Jags rookie DT Smith may miss season

Vick won't face punishment from NFL

League commissioner Roger Goodell visited Eagles camp Tuesday and met with Vick to inform him of the decision, which the NFL announced in a statement.

MLive.com is reporting that it is a five-year deal with a maximum value of $68 million, with $40 million guaranteed.

The 6-foot-4, 300 pound Suh recorded 85 tackles, 12 sacks and 24 tackles for loss last season in 14 games for Nebraska. He was the Outland Trophy, Lombardi Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award winner while also being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Falcons' Babineaux suspended one game

The suspension follows Babineaux's arrest last year on charges of possession of marijuana. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Babineaux came to a plea agreement in July, and that the felony charge was downgraded to three misdemeanor counts of possession.

Babineaux will miss the team's season-opener September 12 at Pittsburgh, and will be eligible to return to the active roster the following day. He will still be able to participate in preseason practices and games.

Bruce highlights CFL weekly awards

Bruce earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor after his big performance in the Tiger-Cats' loss to Saskatchewan.
