  • Franchitti on cruise control halfway through the Indy 500

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Dario Franchitti has led 93 of the first 100 laps in the 94th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Castroneves, the pole sitter, continued to run in the second position, while Ryan Briscoe and Ed Carpenter have been racing among the top-four for most of the race so far.

Tony Kanaan started last in the 33-car field, but moved up to fifth at the halfway point.

During a caution for an incident involving John Andretti on lap 65, Scott Dixon had his left-front wheel come off as he left his pit stall, while Raphael Matos' right-rear tire fell off when exiting pit road. Matos spun around.

Dixon fell back to 23rd, while Matos dropped to 24th. One lap after the restart, Matos lost control and slammed into the wall along the backstretch to knock him out of the event. He had been running third before his pit road mishap.
