• Vettel claims second straight British GP pole

  Silverstone, England (Sports Network) - Red Bull Racing continued its domination in Formula One qualifying this season, as Sebastian Vettel captured the pole for Sunday's British Grand Prix, while his teammate, Mark Webber, will start alongside him on the front row.

  Vettel, who started on the pole and easily won last year's race at Silverstone, rounded the 3.667 miles, 18-turn circuit in one minute, 29.615 seconds for his fifth pole in 10 grand prix this season.

  Both Red Bull drivers topped the time charts in the three weekend practices on the circuit's new track layout.

  "We have a lot of races and then we come here," Vettel said.

  "On Friday morning, we do the first couple of laps, and it's unbelievable. The corner combinations I can only say again and again is so much fun, especially in qualifying.

  Our car obviously works very well in those sort of corners, and it's just unbelievable. With the speeds we reached, I think we were all a bit crazy, but it's so much fun." Vettel started on the pole and won the European GP in Valencia Spain.

  Webber, who is coming off a disappointing 24th-place finish two weeks ago in the European Grand Prix, qualified 0.14 seconds behind Vettel.

  "Coming back here after what happened was not ideal," Webber said. "It's been a good weekend for me, and the team has done a good job. I'm happy with the result today, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow." Red Bull has accumulated nine poles so far this season.

  Fernando Alonso from Ferrari qualified third for his best start since April in the Chinese Grand Prix.

  "We continue to develop the car to perform better," Alonso said. "I think we are improving the car, and I feel more comfortable now. We are performing better now." Current championship points leader Lewis Hamilton took the fourth spot, while his McLaren teammate and British compatriot, Jenson Button, failed to advance into the third and final qualifying session.

  Button, the defending F1 titleholder, settled for a 14th-starting position.

  Hamilton holds a six-point lead over Button, while Vettel trails by 12 markers.

  Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg will start fifth, and Robert Kubica from Renault will roll off sixth.

  Alonso's teammate, Felipe Massa, grabbed the seventh position, followed by Rubens Barrichello from Williams, BMW Sauber's Pedro de la Rosa and Michael Schumacher from Mercedes.

  Sunday's British GP is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. (et).
