Appleby soars in world rankings
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Stuart Appleby carded the second 59 of the year on the PGA Tour and that helped him soar 65 places to No. 94 in this week's world rankings.
Appleby qualified for this week's World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational with the victory.
Tiger Woods, who will go for his eighth Bridgestone title, remained the No. 1 player. Behind him, the next 10 spots were unchanged from a week ago.
Phil Mickelson, who also returns to action, was No. 2 again and was followed by Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell.
Anthony Kim, who will play this week for the first time since early May because of a thumb injury, inched up one to 12th and that knocked Martin Kaymer down one to 13th.
Robert Allenby held steady in 14th, while Padraig Harrington jumped four to 15th following a second-place finish at the Irish Open.
Harrington's move knocked British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, Retief Goosen, Edoardo Molinari and Justin Rose down one spot apiece.
Ross Fisher, who held off Harrington in Ireland, jumped 16 places to No. 20 thanks to his fourth European Tour title. That move knocked Zach Johnson down a spot to 21st.
