PGA

  • Tiger Woods, the defending champion, will look to win the Bridgestone Invitational for the eighth time. He has won this event seven times in 10 starts, all coming at Firestone.

Thanks to back-to-back rounds of 65 on the weekend, Woods cruised to his seventh title last year. He was three behind Padraig Harrington after 54 holes, but rallied to become the first player in PGA Tour history to win seven times at the same venue, in this case Firestone Country Club.

PGA

  • Appleby qualified for this week's World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational with the victory.

Tiger Woods, who will go for his eighth Bridgestone title, remained the No. 1 player. Behind him, the next 10 spots were unchanged from a week ago.

LPGA

  • Tseng, who became the youngest golfer -- male or female -- in the modern era to win three majors, moved within 0.55 average points of No. 1 Jiyai Shin. Last week, Tseng was 2.31 points behind Shin.

Shin was followed by Cristie Kerr and Ai Miyazato, who flip-flopped spots from last week.

PGA

  • It was the first 59 in PGA Tour history carded on a par-70 course and Appleby became only the second player after David Duval at the 1999 Bob Hope to post golf's magic number in the final round of a tournament.

Appleby joined Duval and Al Geiberger (1977 Memphis Classic) as the only players in tour history to shoot a 59 and win. Chip Beck tied for third place at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational and Paul Goydos finished runner-up to Steve Stricker after carding his 59 in the first round of last month's John Deere Classic.

PGA

  • I'm kidding, of course. We got two borderline snoozers and one mildly dramatic finish in the lot.

There was more wind and rain than storylines in these championships, when everybody knows the best British Opens have an equal dose of all three.

CHAMPIONS

  • Langer finished 72 holes at Sahalee with an eight-under 272 to capture his second consecutive major on the Champions Tour. He was coming off a win at last week's Senior British Open.

Couples, the hometown favorite, never recovered from an early triple-bogey at the second hole, where he laid up and then knocked his approach shot into the water.

  • Piller finished 72 holes on the Champions Run course with a 23-under 261, beating Dicky Pride for his second victory of the season. He also won the Stadion Athens Classic in May.

Pride shot a 66 and took second place alone at 21-under 263, while Alistair Presnell (64) and James Hahn (68) shared third at 20-under 264.

PGA

  • What did history look like? A dead-accurate 11-foot putt at the 18th hole that would have gone in a cup half the size.

Appleby knew he made the birdie before it was in the hole, raising his putter in his left hand and pumping his right fist in celebration.

PGA

  • Appleby's 59 was the first on the PGA Tour carded on a par-70 course. It moved him to 22-under 258 for the tournament, giving him the clubhouse lead.

He has to wait to see if it will be a winning 59. Jeff Overton was 21-under through 16 holes.

LPGA

  • LaCrosse finished 54 holes on the East Course at Drumlins Country Club with a 12-under 201, beating Amelia Lewis by three shots.

The 23-year-old LaCrosse, who is a member of the LPGA Tour, won the Riviera Nayarit Challenge earlier this year.

LPGA

  • Tseng managed a one-over 73 in the final round at Royal Birkdale, but it was enough for her third major championship title and fourth win in all. She finished at 11-under-par 277.

The 21-year-old become the youngest golfer -- male or female -- in the modern era with three major championship titles. She also won the 2008 LPGA Championship and earlier this season claimed the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

EUROPEAN

  • Fisher closed with a six-under 65 to claim a two-stroke victory. He ended his fourth European Tour victory at 18-under-par 266.

Harrington did his scoring in bunches on Sunday. His second and third scoring bursts gave him a share of the lead, but he could not grab the out-right lead by himself.

EUROPEAN

  • 1 Tiger Woods committed to play in the 2011 Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday.

Woods skipped the event in 2010 while in rehab, but he will return to The Emirates Golf Club early next season.

EUROPEAN

  • Siddikur had closed with a four-under 67, while Kruger posted a five-under 66. They finished at 16-under-par 268 at Empire Hotel and Country Club.

On the first extra hole, Siddikur made par and it was up to Kruger, who was looking at a 10-footer to extend the playoff. Kruger's putt stayed above ground to give Siddikur the victory.

CHAMPIONS

  • Second-round leader Bernhard Langer birdied the 18th hole to card a two-under 68 and finish alongside Couples at five-under-par 205.

Couples, who was born in Seattle, was the only player to card a bogey-free round Saturday. His 65 was the low round of the week.

  • They finished 54 holes on the Champions Run course at 17-under 196 to take a one-shot lead over nine players who were tied at 16-under 197.

Among those players, Paul Claxton, Scott Gutschewski and Martin Piller all carded 62s on Saturday. The group also included Jon Mills (64), Ron Whittaker (65), Aaron Watkins (65), Dicky Pride (65), Bob May (67) and Kyle Thompson (69).

PGA

  • Chasing his first PGA Tour win, Overton finished 54 holes on The Old White Course with an 18-under 192 to lead D.A. Points by three shots and Boo Weekley by five.

While Overton did enough to remain atop the leaderboard, the real drama Saturday came from a couple of players chasing history in front of him on the course.

LPGA

  • Tseng finished 54 holes at 12-under 204 at rainy, windy Royal Birkdale.

Katherine Hull, who shared the first-round lead with Tseng, rattled off five straight birdies to finish her round. The Australian shot a six-under 66 and is second at eight-under 208.

EUROPEAN

  • Fisher, who fired a tournament-record-matching 61 on Friday, finished 54 holes at 12-under 201 at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club and is one stroke ahead of Chris Wood (66) and Francesco Molinari (69).

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano was one back until he double-bogeyed the 18th hole. He shot a three-under 68 and is alone in fourth place at minus-10.

CHAMPIONS

  • Langer, who is coming off a win last week at the Senior British Open, completed 36 holes at three-under-par 137.

The German is trying to become the first player to win back-to-back majors on the Champions Tour since Tom Watson won the Senior British Open and the JELD- WEN Tradition in 2003.

  • Thompson, who shared the first-round lead with Steven Bowditch, finished two rounds at 14-under-par 128. Kevin Chappell fired his second straight seven- under 64 to join Thompson atop the leaderboard.

Bob May, who lost to Tiger Woods in a playoff at the 2000 PGA Championship, fired a 63 to jump into a share third place at minus-12. He was joined there by Bowditch, who managed a four-under 67 in the second round.

PGA

  • Chasing his first PGA Tour win, Overton had eight birdies in a flawless round and finished 36 holes on The Old White Course with a 14-under 126.

He moved past Boo Weekley, who shot a 63 earlier in the day to post a 10-under 130.

LPGA

  • Tseng, a first-round co-leader, finished 36 holes at eight-under 136 at a rainy Royal Birkdale and is four clear of several players tied for second place.

Reigning LPGA Champion and former world No. 1 Cristie Kerr carded a five-under 67 and is tied for second place with Amy Yang and Brittany Lincicome, who both had 71s on Friday. The trio is knotted in second place at four-under-par 140.
