In fact, not a single team has compiled a combined above-.500 record over the last three seasons, while the overall total stands at 35-48 (42%). West Virginia has been the biggest money-loser of the bunch with a 6-12 mark (33%).
On the bright side, the league has fared well in out-of-conference play with an 88-65-1 ATS record since the start of the '06 season. Last year, the eight teams went 22-14 ATS (61%), including a 12-8 mark against the other five Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. Surprisingly, Louisville has the top record in the league over the last two years at 6-2.

The Big Ten was among the many conferences that recently helped change the landscape of collegiate athletics, adding perennial power Nebraska to the fold back in June, the first new member since Penn State joined 20 years ago. The move comes into effect on July 1, 2011.
The addition has the conference sporting 12 teams, causing a change in scheduling and the inevitability of a long sought-after championship game, though a location for that contest has yet to be determined.

After failing to adhere to head coach Chip Kelly's guidelines that were handed down after the incident, he was kicked off the team permanently.

There is one way to cash in on the MWC and that's through league play, but you have to pick your spots because favorites are only 57-50-1 (a 53% winning percentage) over the last three seasons. However, the divide between the upper- echelon clubs and the usual bottom-feeders is staggering.
Utah, TCU, BYU and Air Force are an amazing 46-28 (62%) when favored since '07, while the other five clubs are a combined 11-22-1 (34%) as the betting choice. Surprisingly, Air Force leads the way at 9-3 ATS while San Diego State has yet to post a victory at 0-2.

INSIDE LBS: GREG JONES, MICHIGAN STATE While this Spartan looks a little small for a linebacker (6-1, 228), there is no denying that he plays much bigger and is regarded among the best in the country. Jones has earned All-American honors in each of his first three seasons at MSU, including being named a consensus first-team member in 2009. The 2009 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year finished third in the nation in tackles (154), with 13.5 TFLs and nine sacks. The ultimate defensive playmaker Jones heads into his senior season ranked eighth on the school's all-

At SEC Football Media Day earlier this month, Alabama head coach Nick Saban described unscrupulous sports agents as "pimps." While I'm sure there are some people out there, especially among the collegiate coaching ranks, that believe that comparison gives pimps a bad name, is Saban really serious? I mean, in watching his press conference it was hard not to think that Ashton Kutcher was going to walk out at some point and let us all know we were being punked.
Saban's comments may have been a knee-jerk reaction to the recent discovery that one of his top players, defensive end Marcel Dareus, is under investigation by the NCAA for attending a party in South Beach funded by an NFL agent. More absurd and transparent comm

Unfortunately for Conference USA, its poor records have not been a one-year trend. Back in '08, the league went 15-33 SU and 21-27 ATS in non-conference play and 2-23 SU and 9-16 ATS against BCS squads. In '07, the numbers were similar: 12-34 SU and 20-26 ATS, with 2-25 SU and 10-17 marks versus automatic qualifying clubs.
There is ample evidence that this meager run will continue, as the league moves forward without nine of its top 12 rushers from a season ago, as well as four of its top six receivers.

This straight off the heels of a disastrous 13-22 mark in '08, a season in which the league finished 5-14 against the spread against Bowl Championship Series competition. This past year was the first since 2004 that the WAC ended a season above the .500 mark (8-7) versus BCS schools.
The question now becomes: Can the league continue its success, or will it falter with increased expectations? I fully expect the former to hold true, especially since only one team (Louisiana Tech) returns fewer starters than a season ago. In addition, the WAC is the only conference that returns every single starting quarterback.

"Not only is it an outstanding opportunity for both programs, but it is great for the sport of college football." The rivalry, dubbed by many as "Catholics vs. Convicts" in the late 1980s, was highlighted by a fight between the teams in the tunnel of Notre Dame Stadium in 1988, a game the Fighting Irish won by a 31-30 score en route to their last national title.

It is true that the conference is fodder for BCS schools, but it also has fared poorly against its own kind, especially in bowl games. Within the league, favorites were 29-22-1, a massive turnaround from years past. Underdogs held the advantage by a 51-42-1 count in '07 and '08 combined.
