Franklin, Michna & Nyenhuis earn weekly honors
Courtesy of Arena Football League Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Tulsa wide receiver CARLESE FRANKLIN, Chicago quarterback RUSS MICHNA and Tulsa defensive end GABE NYENHUIS have been named the JLS Ironman, Russell Athletic Offensive Player and Riddell Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 of 2010. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also highlighting the player who makes the best catch of the week, the playmaker of the week, and the highlight of the week. The Cutters Catch of the Week Award for Week 8 goes to Orlando wide receiver BOBBY SIPPIO, while Orlando's quarterback NICK HILL has been named the Playmaker of the Week. The highlight of the week award has gone to Arizona's defensive back TERRANCE SANDERS.
JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK Franklin (5-11, 190, McNeese State) got the game rolling for the Tulsa Talons as he rushed for the first touchdown of the game on the Talon's first drive. Franklin kept the offense going throughout the game, scoring in every quarter. Franklin ended the night with three carries for 17 yards and two touchdowns and had five receptions for 62 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side, Franklin also had one unassisted tackle.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Michna (6-2, 220, Western Illinois) lead the Rush to a victory at Dallas. After a perfect start to the season, the Rush lost two games in a row. This was a major win and confidence booster for Michna and the Rush. Michna had a perfect night with zero interceptions and completing 28-of-35 passes for 339 yards and four touchdowns.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Nyenhuis (6-4, 260, Colorado) looked as though he housebroke the Yard Dawgz offense, breaking his forced fumbles, unassisted tackles and tackle for loss yards season records. Nyenhuis had five unassisted tackles with three tackles for a total loss of 17 yards. Nyenhuis also added four sacks, giving him seven total sacks, the most in the league. Most of his contribution was in turnovers, forcing the Yard Dawgz to three forced fumbles and one pass deflection.
