Cubs trade Monroe to Twins
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs traded their second outfielder in as many days, as they dealt Craig Monroe to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday for a player to be named.
On Monday, the Cubs sent Jacque Jones to the Detroit Tigers for infielder Omar Infante.
The 30-year-old Monroe started the 2007 season with Detroit and hit .222 with 11 homers and 55 RBI before being traded to the Cubs on August 23. He then hit .204 in 23 games for the Cubs.
The movement of Jones and Monroe could clear the way for the Cubs to trade for Carl Crawford from Tampa Bay or even pick up Japanese free agent Kosuke Fukudome. The Chicago Tribune reported those two scenarios on Monday.
Additionally, the Cubs activated right-handed pitchers Angel Guzman and Mark Prior from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, bringing their major league roster to 38 players.
