  • Posada staying a Yankee

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Veteran catcher Jorge Posada is going to remain a New York Yankee, as he reportedly has come to terms on a four- year, $52 million contract with the club.

The New York Daily News reported Posada came to terms just before other teams could have negotiated with the five-time All-Star. The newspaper also reports the deal will allow the 36-year-old to finish his career in pinstripes.

Posada hit .338 with 20 homers and 90 RBI in 144 games last season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the first Yankees catcher to finish a season in the top 10 in the league in batting average since Thurman Munson finished 10th in 1978 with a .297 average. He also became the first player in major league history to hit at least .330 with 40 doubles, 20 homers and 90 RBI in a year in which he caught at least half of his games played.

Posada, who has never been placed on the disabled list in his career and has started at least 120 games behind the plate in each of the last eight seasons, has played his entire career with the Yankees.

The Daily News also reported the Yankees will likely get closer Mariano Rivera under contract in the next few days.
