  • Pettitte among free agent filings for Monday

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte was among seven players to file for free agency Monday.

Last week, Pettitte chose to decline his $16 million option from the New York Yankees and he's reportedly been contemplating retirement.

The 35-year-old Pettitte was 15-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 34 starts (36 appearances) in 2007. He was tied for first in the American League in games started, and ranked ninth in the league with 215 1/3 innings pitched. Those were his most innings pitched in a season with the Yankees since 1998, and his most starts with the team since 1997.

Also filing for free agency Monday was New York Mets first baseman Jeff Conine, Pittsburgh shortstop Cesar Izturis, Seattle outfielder Jose Guillen, Tampa Bay pitcher Al Reyes, and Texas pitcher Jamey Wright.

Guillen hit .290 with 23 homers and 99 RBI last season.

Houston second baseman Craig Biggio also filed, but had announced his retirement earlier in the season.
