  • Clemson holds on to edge Oklahoma at CWS; TCU eliminates FSU

Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - John Hinson went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, as Clemson held on to edge Oklahoma 6-4 in the completion of Tuesday's College World Series game that was suspended by rain.

Scott Weismann picked up the win for allowing only one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings before rain halted play. Alex Frederick earned the save for getting the final three outs. Clemson will play either Oklahoma or South Carolina on Friday and need one win to advance to the CWS finals.

Tyler Ogle hit a solo homer and drove in a pair of runs, while Bobby Shore suffered the loss for yielding four runs on two hits and five walks.

In the nightcap, Matt Curry blasted a grand slam in an eight-run eighth and had five RBI, leading TCU to an 11-7 comeback win over Florida State in an elimination game.

Jantzen Witte and Jerome Pena added a home run apiece for the Horned Frogs, who will need to beat UCLA two times in a row to advance to the Championship Series.

Erik Miller grabbed the win after getting the final two outs of the seventh after starter Steven Maxwell gave up four runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Sherman Johnson and Mike McGee both homered for Florida State.

Oklahoma broke on top in the fourth inning thanks to Caleb Bushyhead's RBI single, but Shore struggled in the bottom half as Clemson scored four times.

Shore walked the bases loaded and Hinson stroked an RBI single to center.

Jack Mayfield entered in relief and Richie Shaffer lofted a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. Hinson stole second and another walk set the table for Spencer Kieboom's two-run base hit to right field.

Wilson Boyd was caught trying to steal home to end the inning.

The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the fifth, thanks in part to a crucial error.

Kyle Parker tripled off the wall in center field. Brad Miller then hit a ball to left field, but Max White dropped it for an error and a 5-1 margin. Hinson then grounded a base hit to right field for the sixth Clemson run.

Lightning was seen in the distance prior to the top of the sixth and umpires stopped play immediately.

NCAA officials then decided to suspended the contest.

When play resumed, Will Lamb was on the hill for Clemson and pitched a scoreless sixth before giving up a solo homer to Cameron Seitzer in the seventh to make it a 6-2 game. Ogle added a solo shot to right in the eighth to get the Sooners a run closer. Lamb then walked Bushyhead and Danny Black followed with a double off the right field wall to put runners on second and third.

Dominic Leone took for Lamb and walked Seitzer to load the bases before retiring pinch-hitter Casey Johnson on a pop up to shortstop.

In the top of the ninth, Leone issued a leadoff walk to Chris Ellison and was lifted in favor of Frederick, who set down the next two hitters before giving up an RBI double to Ogle that got Oklahoma to within 6-4. Cody Reine lined out to left to end the game.

TCU trailed, 7-3, entering the eighth, but Witte began the fateful inning by reaching on an error.

Witte went to second on a wild pitch from Geoff Parker and third on an infield single from Taylor Featherston. Two batters later, a fielder's choice scored Witte for a three-run game.

Following a walk, Bryan Holaday's double plated another run, and Curry's grand slam came two batters later for a 9-7 TCU advantage. Witte added a two-run homer later in the inning for a four-run cushion.

Florida State failed to score in the final two innings.

The Seminoles built an lead early, using Johnson and McGee's back-to-back homers in the opening frame for a 2-0 lead. TCU came back to tie it with a pair of runs in the third, but Florida State moved back ahead, 4-2, on James Ramsey's RBI triple and Stephen Cardullo's RBI single in the bottom half.

In the fifth, FSU went up by five on Cardullo's sac fly and Jayce Boyd's two- run double. Pena later homered for TCU to make it a four-run game after seven frames.
