Chevalier, 19, has gone 3-1 with a 4.36 earned run average in nine games -- four starts -- for his club and will begin his suspension immediately.

Maybe Vladimir Guerrero returning to the lineup following a scheduled day off will spur the division-leading Rangers to victory in Wednesday's second portion of a three-game series against the Mariners at Safeco Field. Guerrero was not in the starting lineup in Tuesday's 3-2 loss, but did ground out as a pinch hitter to end the game in the top of the ninth.
Guerrero owns a .358 batting average with 13 home runs and 44 RBI in 50 games at Safeco Field, and is batting .350 with 29 homers and 92 runs batted in lifetime against Seattle. Michael Young and Bengie Molina got the Rangers on the board with a sacrifice fly apiece, while Josh Hamilton returned from a two-game absence because of knee tendinitis and finished 0-for-4. In a move to rebuild the foundation of a struggling franchise, the Orioles tabbed Showalter as manager and introduced the new skipper on Monday. Showalter then watched his new ballclub open a seven-game homestand with yesterday's 6-3 win over the Angels at Camden Yards, and will roam the dugout once again this evening in the second test of this three-game series.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Orioles got a two-run homer from Luke Scott and a two-RBI double out of Josh Bell to take the lead for good. Matt Wieters went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored for Baltimore, which won for the second time in 10 games.

Price won his second straight start on Thursday against Detroit, as he held the Tigers to a pair of runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to improve to 14-5 on the year to go along with a 2.90 earned run average. He also struck out nine in the triumph.
His 14 wins have matched the team record for victories in a season, shared by James Shields (2008), Edwin Jackson (2008) and Rolando Arrojo (1998).

Williams will get a chance to see if that move was a wise one when Jackson takes the mound tonight in the third installment of a four-game series against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Jackson was just 6-10 with a 5.16 earned run average in 21 starts this season for the D'Backs, and threw the second no-hitter in team history on June 25 against Tampa Bay.
After a 14-win season for the Rays as part of their American League pennant season in 2008, Jackson was shipped to Detroit and had his best year in 2009. He was 13-9 with a 3.62 ERA in 33 starts for the Tigers and earned his first All-Star nod. Jackson, who has lost his last four starts, defeated Detroit back on June 19 this season in a 6-5 decision. He gave up four runs, three of which

After notching 18 runs and 26 hits in Monday's opener, the Brewers pounded out another 11 hits in last night's 4-3 victory, getting a pair of RBI out of Casey McGehee and another three hits from Ryan Braun, who along with Prince Fielder had five RBI in Monday's victory.
Milwaukee has totaled 37 hits over its two-game win streak that directly follows a five-game slide. The Brewers had just eight runs and 31 hits total over that skid, but have rebounded offensively and can record their first sweep in the Windy City since May 9-12, 2002.

Florida hopes Philadelphia's luck runs out this evening at Sun Life Stadium, where Anibal Sanchez takes the hill for the first time since throwing a gem his last time out.
Sanchez gets the call for game two of this three-game series nearly a week after throwing the second shutout of his career in San Francisco last Thursday. The right-hander held the Giants to just one hit and a walk in the 5-0 victory, his first blanking since a no-hitter on Sept. 6, 2006 against the Diamondbacks.

Alex Rodriguez's quest to become the youngest player to 600 home runs continues this afternoon when the New York Yankees try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.
Rodriguez, who was 0-for-3 in Tuesday's loss, has gone 46 at-bats and 51 plate appearances since hitting No. 599 back on July 22 in the Bronx. Once Rodriguez finally reaches the milestone, he should easily become the youngest player to do so. Babe Ruth hit his 600th at age 36, while Rodriguez turned 35 just last week.

Pelfrey seeks his first victory in over a month and New York will try to win back-to-back games for the first time since late June in this evening's rubber match of a three-game series with the first-place Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
New York is just 15-25 since an eight-game winning streak from June 10-18 and after losing Monday's opener, rebounded for a 3-2 win last night on former Brave Jeff Francoeur's home run to begin the ninth inning off Atlanta closer Billy Wagner.

The Dodgers finally put an end to a frustrating six-game losing streak with last night's 2-1 victory over the Padres, receiving a nice lift from Ted Lilly in the recently-acquired pitcher's debut with his new club.
Lilly (4-8), who came over from the Chicago Cubs along with second baseman Ryan Theriot in a five-player trade on Saturday, limited San Diego to one run and a mere two hits over seven outstanding innings. The veteran lefty fanned five and did not walk a batter while throwing 65 of his 87 pitches for strikes.

Ellsbury, who has been on the disabled list since the end of May with fractured ribs, is expected to be activated for Wednesday's game, bat leadoff and play center field.
Boston will hand the ball to left-hander Jon Lester this evening, as he tries to stop a personal three-start losing streak. Lester absorbed the loss on Friday against Detroit, yielding four runs and 11 hits in six innings to fall to 11-6 on the year to go along with a 3.05 earned run average.

After dropping the opener of this set on Monday, Kansas City rebounded on Tuesday to beat the A's for the first time in five chances this season, as Gregor Blanco drove in the winning run in the ninth inning to lift the Royals to a 3-2 win.
Blanco's fielder's choice grounder plated Alex Gordon with the decisive run to give the Royals their fourth win in their last five tries overall.

Arizona avenged a 3-1 loss to the Nationals in Monday's opener of this set by coming through with a 6-1 victory last night, but received a scary moment during the sixth inning when third baseman Mark Reynolds was struck in the head by a pitch from Washington reliever Colin Balester.
Reynolds, whose three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning snapped a 1-1 tie, was able to walk off under his own power afterward and passed a neurological exam afterward. Still, the Diamondbacks slugger will almost certainly sit out at least one game as a precaution.

The Astros have been an awfully tough opponent as of late, however, and the resurgent club will be aiming for an eighth straight victory and sweep of this three-game series when it takes on the Cardinals once again tonight at Busch Stadium.
Houston has surprisingly thrived since shipping away former All-Stars Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman in the days prior to last Saturday's trade deadline. The Astros haven't lost since making those deals, and the offense showed it hasn't suffered in Berkman's absence by battering St. Louis pitching in an 18-4 rout last night.

San Francisco has been on a major tear over the past month, having amassed a sensational 21-5 record since July 5. The surge has given the Giants a three- game lead in the NL Wild Card race and moved Bruce Bochy's club within one game of first-place San Diego in the league's West Division standings.
The Giants delivered their fourth straight win and 10th triumph in 12 games with yesterday's 10-0 shellacking of the Rockies. San Francisco pounded out 19 hits in support of Jonathan Sanchez, who threw six shutout innings to pick up his eighth victory of the season.

Cueto aims for a seventh straight winning decision over Pittsburgh and a series victory for his Cincinnati team in today's finale of a three-game set at PNC Park.
The 24-year-old Cueto is 8-2 with a 3.00 earned run average in 11 career starts versus the Pirates, winning six decisions over seven starts since losing to them on April 11 of last season. He is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in three starts against them this year, allowing just three runs with 21 strikeouts over 20 innings.

It will be the lefty's third surgery in as many years on his pitching shoulder, and this procedure will be performed by team medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan and the famed Dr. Lewis Yocum.

Reynolds was hit directly in the head with a fastball in the sixth inning and left the game, but was later seen in the dugout and did not appear to be seriously injured.
"I tried to get out of the way and they got me," said Reynolds of his reaction to getting hit. "My first instinct was to get up and run to first base but the trainers made me stay down and made sure I was alright. I told them I was good to stay in the game. I just got lucky." Saunders (1-0) allowed one run and struck out five with two walks for Arizona, which bounced back from a 3-1 setback in Monday's series opener and in the process halted a five-ga

Chris Snyder contributed a two-run single for Pittsburgh, which snapped a five-game slide and won for the third time in its last 12 overall. Jose Tabata went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice in the win.
Paul Maholm (7-9) worked six-plus innings to take the win. The left-hander, who was just 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA over his previous five starts, allowed four runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out a pair. Joel Hanrahan tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save since May 24th of 2009 when he was with Washington.

Ryan Braun collected three hits and a walk while Prince Fielder added a pair of hits and a run batted in for the visitors' second straight win after five consecutive losses. Both had five hits in the Brewers' 18-1 demolition of the Cubs in the series starter on Monday.
Narveson (9-7) allowed a lone run on six hits while walking one and striking out six over 5 2/3 innings to grab the win for Milwaukee, which earned a fifth series win on the road in 18 sets away from home. John Axford gave up a run in the ninth but hung on to record his 16th save of the season.

Jonathan Sanchez (8-6) allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and walked four to pick up his first win since July 5 for the Giants, who have won four in a row and 10 of 12 overall.

Reynolds leads the D'Backs with 25 home runs this season. In the fourth inning of this game, he belted a three-run homer to give Arizona the lead.
